Luis Suarez no longer wants to switch to River Plate after the South American team could not get through the 1/8 round of the Copa Libertadores.
Speaking to Ovacion, Suarez said: “I wanted to stay in Europe but River Plate really attracted me. For the past two months, the team has been working very hard to recruit me. But the deal fell through because they were excluded from the Copa Libertadores.”
River Plate has just been eliminated by Velez in the round of 16 with a score of 0-1 after two matches. This result knocked them out of the top South American tournament and directly changed Suarez’s decision
The former Liverpool star has dreamed of winning the Copa Libertadores since he was a child. So, when River Plate jumped into the race to sign this striker, he was quickly convinced by the team’s leadership.
But now, the future of the Uruguayan assassin turned after River Plate could not progress in the South American tournament. Suarez is a free agent in the transfer market after leaving Atletico last month.
With the current situation, the 35-year-old striker is likely to move to another team in Europe. Because in fact, before receiving the offer from River Plate, Suarez never intended to leave this place.
However, since the transfer market opened, there have not been many teams asking to buy the former Barcelona killer. Last season, Suarez’s form dropped significantly when he contributed only 11 goals in 35 appearances in La Liga.
